'I am overwhelmed with grief' — Asake reacts to Death of Woman outside his O2 Concert

Nigerian artist Asake expressed his sadness and grief over the death of a woman who was injured in a crowd crush outside of his concert at the O2 Academy Brixton.

The incident occurred when ticketless fans tried to enter the show on Thursday, and three people were badly hurt, including 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo from Newham, east London, who later died in the hospital on Saturday.

Two other women, aged 21 and 23, are currently in critical condition.

Asake released a statement on Instagram expressing his condolences and saying that he is "devastated" by the news.

“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.

“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.

“My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the Venue management and the Police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.

“If you have any relevant information relating to this please do reach out to the Metropolitan Police.”
